The Customizer

“A new stock FLSTF Fat Boy®! My very own. No more renting and longing. No more envying my buddies. No more hitching a ride on the back of my friends bike. Me, pumped, you bet! Now I want to customize my baby and let her sturt her bells and whistles,” I rambled to myself unashamed as I pulled on my chaps and boots.

I took each curve with ease and the thrill of adventure shot through my spine like a freshly released arrow from a tighly strung bow. I was heading to Adventure Harley-Davidson to talk to Glenn about customizing my new Fat Boy®.

“Hey buddy, How ya doing today,” Glenn grinned as he shook my hand.

I love coming to this dealership. The people are genuine here and really love to talk to you. That is one of the reasons I bought my bike here. They are knowlegeable about Harley-Davidson and all of its products. “Hey, Glenn! I’m fine. I’m having a love affair with my new bike.”

“Well, that sounds normal. It’s a daily happening around Adventure. Everyone has stars in their eyes,” Glenn stated.

“I want to customize my Fat Boy®. I have some ideas that I want to run by you,” I blurted, anxious to see all of my options.

“Zach, follow me! I have something to show you that you are going to love. It’s called “The Customizer”. It is a website from Harley-Davidson that we can customize your bike and you can see what your choices will look like on your bike,” Glenn rambled as he flipped “The Customizer” screen towards me.

“Wow, that looks interesting,” I exclaimed as I looked at a picture of my stock bike model and columns of accessory categories and paint color choices. “Are there items that will fit my bike under all of those headings?”

“Yes, Zach, “The Customizer” is just for 08-09 bikes and as the new models come out they are added. Since you have a 2009 Fat Boy® we can use this awesome tool to help you customize your bike.”

“I didn’t know I had so many options. Glenn, I was thinking about adding a “Zumo GPS” and some sharp looking accessories.”

“With “The Customizer” you can pick the accessory you like and to the right towards the bottom of screen you’ll find a box that says Important Information. If you have to purchase extra items like docking hardware, turn signal relocation kits, etc. to have your selected accessory installed, it will tell you in this box. It will also give you the part number.”

“That is cool, man. I like this tool!”

“Zach, “The Customizer” will give you suggested items that go with what you have selected. It will let you save your bike, print out your list complete with estimated MSRP prices. We can e-mail your list to your home. You’ll love just getting on here and messing around customizing all the models.

“Glenn, I want to play with this Customizer thing. Can I do this from my computer at home?”

“Sure Zack. Just press this link: http://www.harley-davidson.com/pr/gm/customizer/launchCustomizer.asp

“I want to study the different configurations of accessories I can get for my bike. I will be doing a lot more customizing than I had planned. I can’t believe I can flip my bike around and see both side and how these things will look.”

“Would you like to go home an play with “The Customizer” or you can use it here?”

“I know I want the GPS and I think I’ll work on this at home so I can get all my bell and whistles installed at once. Go ahead and order my Zumo GPS.”

OK, that should be in day after tomorrow,” Glen informed me.

Glenn, I’ll be back in a couple of days with a huge list,” I bellowed laughing as I hurried home to play with “The Customizer”.

Well, you would have had to have been there when I met my buddies for a poker run at Adventure Harley-Davidson. Their tongues were panting with envy after I had my accessories installed. I think I saw Bill wipe away a tear as he turned to walk to his uncustomized bike.
