Article by Ghost Rider

For any of you who don’t know, Daytona Bike Week got its start back in January 24, 1937 with the running of the Daytona 200. This event was a 3.2 mile beach and road course race. In 1942, the Daytona 200 was discontinued because of World War ll but on February 24, 1947, the famous motorcycle race resumed and bike week as we know it began. The main festivities were mostly on Main Street in Daytona Beach in those days.

Daytona Bike Week has long since spilled out into the rest of, not only the city, but the rest of Volusia County as well. Over the years Daytona Bike Week has expanded to the surrounding cities. This was partly due to the heavy handedness of the Daytona Police and the greedyness of motel owners, resturants, and spot renters. It seems they all want to make a years wages in ten days.

Approximately 500,000 bikers make their way to the rally area for the 10-day event. Motorcycle riders will be visiting biker bars, restuarants, bike shops, strip clubs, camp grounds, transit biker business’s, tatto & piercing parlors, and bike builder areas.

Daytona Bike Week has everything you have ever heard about at any bike rally. The legendary Daytona 200 is held every year at the Daytona International Speedway. The Rat’s Hole Custom Chopper Show is one of the most popular events with over 2,000 custom bike builders competing in two dozen or so different classes.

There are many other bike shows at other locations also. They feature top motorcycle builders and celebrities, all of the major motorcycle manufacturers offering demo rides on their new line up of bikes, stunt shows, and vendors are everywhere selling everything a bike could want.

There are many world famous biker bars. Broken Spoke Saloon, Iron Horse Saloon, Boot Hill Saloon, Willies Tropical Tattoo, Gillys Pub 44, Smiley’s, Full Moon Saloon, Froggys Saloon, Dirty Harrys and many others. All have lots of things going on geared towards the Daytona Bike Week crowd. The Bars have live music, bike shows, other big attractions, contests for the ladies, vendors, and more.

While visiting Daytona Bike Week 2010 your friends at Ghost Riders Leather would like for you to stop by their display and say hi. While there you can shop their motorcycle leather apparel, which they display on the internet, plus many Daytona Bike Week souvenirs.

Their display is located at the Whistle Junction, 1654 S. Ridgewood Ave., South Daytona. They are located just across the street from the world famous Miller’s Custom motorcycle shop. You can find Miller’s location on any Bike Week map or Bike Week publication distributed at the event. This is a one stop shopping location full of variouss vendors on both sides of the street. The area vendors carry everything from motorcycles, parts, accessories, leather apparel, T-Shirts, jewelry, riding glasses, and more.

If you get hungry while shopping there is plenty of food choices within walking distance. If you eat light there is a Windy’s and Arby’s. If you eat medium there is a Mexican and Italian restuarant. If you eat heavy there is the buffet style lunches and supper offered at the Whistle Junction.

You can do all this without long lines and plenty of shopping room. Another great bonus is free street parking where you can keep an eye on your bike and park on pavement. The South Daytona vendors hope to see each and every one of you there enjoying the fun in the sun.

Unfortunately everyone is not going to be able to attend the “Big Show.” Have no fret though. If you are looking for any kind of motorcycle leather apparel you can still view quality products online.
