Serious motorcycle comparison?
Question by : Serious motorcycle comparison?
Hi, I am 6 foot 2 and looking to get a motorcycle for commuting and 4 hour rides every few weeks. My mind is pretty much settled on the Suzuki Boulevard m50 and the yamaha v Star 950. I realize the cc difference, but other than that, which is a better bike and why? Thanks

My choice would be the Suzuki Boulevard m50. It is shaft driven meaning it will be less worry about a belt (yamaha v star) breaking or stretching on you. That is one less maintenance headache you have to worry about. With that said a belt drive will give you a quicker throttle response. It also has a higher compression ratio meaning a little more low end torque (easier starts).
Both bikes however are closely matched in terms of specifications.
Personally I used to ride a Yamaha Virago 750 that was shaft driven.

The displacement difference is probably not significant. Neither of these are what you’d call high performance motorcycles, but either one should cruise well enough to get you there. Both brands are very good. It probably comes down to personal preference. Cruisers are all about style, so which do you think looks better? Have you sat on both? You might find one much more comfortable than the other.
A cruiser is a good choice for commuting and long rides. Both of these bikes are probably pretty comfortable, with nice soft seats, soft springs, etc. And cruisers are easier to handle for their weight because they have a lower seat and lower center of gravity.
If it was me I’d sit on both and see which I found more comfortable. Especially if I was bigger than average height, as you are.
Both are good machines. I buy Suzuki’s myself because in 40 plus years of owning/riding them I have never ever had a problem with one. And I’d also advise you to condsider the C50 as well. It looks better than the M50 and is more comfortable to ride longer.
